Courtenay Allyn, Head Gardener
Courtenay grew up on a multigenerational farm, and spent much of her life outdoors. She performed a wide range of tasks related to fruit and vegetable production, processing and sales, as well as animal husbandry. It was there that she observed and learned about the cycles, processes, and systems of the natural world. Her passion for flower gardening began nearly 40 years ago, and she’s been working in the formal flower gardens at Stone Acres for 13 years. She’s married, has a grown son, has owned and operated a small breakfast and lunch restaurant, earned an MSW from UCONN, and has a ceaseless passion for learning.
Hannah Estabrooks, Flower and Poultry Manager
Hannah grew up farming in Pawcatuck, CT before starting her own farm growing vegetables then transitioning to pastured pork and chicken along with cut flowers. She now is the poultry and flower farmer at Stone Acres and works to raise meat chickens, turkeys, and laying hens along with growing and making bouquets for the farm stand.
Pete Higgins, Director of Farming Operations
Pete began his path to farming in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. He has worked on tobacco, potato, CSA and nonprofit farms since high school. He moved to Stonington in 2021 to work at Stone Acres and further pursue a career in farming. He is passionate about hunting and fishing and loves nothing more than enjoying his own homemade hot sauce. He is the proud father of a kitty named Nina and is a 3-time fantasy football champion.
Jane Meiser, Director of Operations and Events
In her role Jane is responsible for advancing an innovative program of farm based and educational events, maintaining community support, creating and implementing the long-term strategy and promoting the overall mission of the farm. Prior to her work with Stone Acres, Jane served as the Executive Director of the non-profit arts and community organization, La Grua Center. Before moving back to the Stonington area, Jane was a was part of a team of associates that ran the daily operations and developed program strategy for the non-profit organization, American Corporate Partners, a New York City based mentoring program that assists veterans transitioning from military service to civilian life. Jane lives in Stonington with her husband, son and two dogs.
John Morris, Director
John oversees operations and formulates strategy and growth initiatives. He is directly responsible for the farm, Farm Stand, gardens, grounds & maintenance and finance. He lives in Stonington where he has revitalized an 18th century farm and farmhouse and is passionate about Stonington history and beekeeping. Prior to coming to Stone Acres, he was in finance where he advised leading consumer brands on strategy and growth. He is also a volunteer firefighter at Old Mystic Fire and an EMT at Mystic River Ambulance Company.
